Congress’ Gurgaon Lok Sabha candidate Capt (retd) Ajay Singh Yadav, on Sunday, filed a complaint with election officials in Mewat alleging that a booth was captured by BJP workers in Chandaka village of Ferozepur-Jhirka assembly constituency. “I have filed a complaint and demanded repolling at the booth,” Yadav, who reached the booth around 3pm, said.

Around noon, a fight broke out between BJP and Congress workers over polling in Chandaka village. Trouble started after some people, allegedly owing their allegiance to the Congress, complained that they were not being allowed to vote in the polling station leading to exchange of heated words between supporters of both the parties.

“I was informed that a booth had been captured and Congress workers were not being allowed to vote. When I reached there, found a local BJP leader inside the booth, controlling the EVM. I asked everyone to leave the polling station if they were not authorised to remain there. I have also lodged a complaint with the EC officials and I demanded repolling here,” Yadav said.

The BJP, however, refuted the allegations saying this election there was no attempt made by any of leader to capture a booth in Chandaka or elsewhere. “The Congress is going to lose this election and they have made a habit of either blaming the EVMs or BJP workers. There could have been minor tiffs among party workers, but I deny any attempt to capture a booth,” BJP Mewat president Surender Pratap Arya said.

A district administration spokesperson said they were yet to receive a complaint, but added that the complaint may have been filed through the assistant returning officer. “The returning officer will go through the complaint and necessary action would be taken on the basis of evidence,” the spokesperson said.

Mewat district, now known as Nuh, has three assembly constituencies—Nuh, Punhana and Ferozepur-Jhirka, from where an estimated 70.24%, 63.37% and 70% polling was reported by the district election office.
