Lok Sabha elections 2019 Phase 6: Delhi turnout lowest among seven states after 7 hours of voting

Bihar was slightly better than Delhi with 20.70 % voter turnout, Uttar Pradesh recorded 21.75%, Haryana- 23.26%, Madhya Pradesh 28.25% and Jharkhand 31.27%.

The Delhi voters seem to be taking it easy on a hot mid-May day with the state at 2pm recording the lowest vote percentage among the 7 states going to polls in the sixth and penultimate phase of Lok Sabha elections on Friday.

The national capital, where all 7 parliamentary seats are voting today, recorded 33.65 % voter turnout while polling was highest in West Bengal with 55.77 per cent, according to figures released by the Election Commission.

Uttar Pradesh was slightly better than Delhi with 34.30 % voter turnout, Bihar recorded 35.22%, Haryana- 39.34%, Madhya Pradesh 42.47% and Jharkhand 47.61%.

The overall voting percentage in the seven states was 39.80 per cent.

The day started with the Prime Minister appealing to the voters to come out in large numbers.

“Yet another phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections is here! Urging all those whose constituencies are polling in today’s sixth phase to go out and vote,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

“I hope youngsters are voting in record numbers. After all, their participation makes the polls even more special,” he wrote.

The Prime Minister has tweeted ahead of every phase since the first one to remind voters to cast their franchise.

Fifty-nine parliamentary seats are going to the polls in seven states in the sixth of the seven-phased election with a number of high-profile fights in regions where the BJP performed well five years ago.
