Extortion row: Scribes did sting on others too

Greater Noida: Two reporters accused of trying to extort Rs 2 crore from Union minister Mahesh Sharma had conducted sting operations on other influential people in the past, police have learnt.

Alok Kumar, the owner of a now-defunct news channel Pratinidhi who had conducted the alleged sting on Sharma, and his colleague Nishu were remanded in police custody again on Saturday. Police are now trying to trace another one of his accomplice, Khaled. “The three-four videos found in the laptop of the accused had been shot in the same manner as that of the minister. The accused have identified themselves as ‘sting reporters’. We are planning to question people who are seen in the videos,” said Sudha Singh, SP (city).
Alok Kumar had identified himself as the owner of an IT firm and sought an appointment with Sharma. He has stealthily recorded the meeting.
