The intensive drive against illegal brewing and sale of liquor led to the unearthing of a brewing unit and arrest of three workers. There were several complaints from residents that fake liquor bottles were being circulated in Natrampalli and neighbouring towns of Krishnagiri district.
Police intensified vehicle checks, monitoring the movement of ex-criminals. One such raid conducted by the police on Friday, led to the cracking of illegal liquor brewing unit in Natrampalli.
Police sources said that a vehicle check in Mathur area of Natrampalli led to the seizure of three carton boxes full of fake liquor bottles.
On questioning, the suspects admitted that they were involved in illicit brewing of liquor in a unit in Eriyur village of Mallapalli in Natrampalli region. The three accused were identified as Manoharan, 25, of Kanthili Kumudipatti, Govindaraj, 60, of Kannalapatti and Saravanan, 36, of Koundapanur, who used the space owned by Saravanan to manufacture and distribute fake liquor. “Our initial investigation revealed that Saravanan got the illicit liquor from Andhra Pradesh and has been selling them under the Indian made foreign liquor brands in the Mathanur area,” said an investigating official.
He added that the investigation was on to ascertain whether others were involved in connection with the incident.
The accused were remanded to judicial custody.
