Corporation directs depts to clear C&D waste

Gurgaon: The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) on Saturday directed several departments in the district to clear construction and demolition (C&D) waste lying unattended in areas within their jurisdiction and dump those at sites earmarked by the civic body within a week.
The move comes after multiple notices were issued by the pollution control board and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) demanding appropriate steps from the corporation to address the city’s problem of managing waste. In a letter to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority (GDMA), forest department, and Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), municipal commissioner Yashpal Yadav has asked them to collect and dispose C&D waste from their sites within a week. The MCG has also asked the departments to bear the cost of collection and disposal of garbage, as management of waste lying their areas is their responsibility. “We have sent them (the departments) a list of 89 sites, where C&D waste is lying unattended. Every department will take care of the total cost incurred, as it is their responsibility to manage waste in their respective areas,” Yadav added.
All departments have been directed to dump waste at locations specified by the MCG — Basai, Jail road, Udyog Vihar, Sectors 18, 21, 22 and 53 and Wazirabad village are some of them. The departments can also dump waste at garbage transport stations in Beriwala Bagh, Atul Kataria Chowk and near Paras Hospital, Sector 47.

MCG claims that it conducted a survey recently and identified sites where C&D waste had been lying unattended. As a result, it has been pulled up by the pollution control board and NGT on several occasions.
“All departments have been requested to perform their duty towards the environment by dumping C&D waste at dedicated sites and help us contain pollution levels in the city,” said YS Gupta, additional municipal commissioner, MCG.
