Calibrated heating of the land beyond a threshold is churning up the atmosphere to generate and line up a series of thunderstorms across many parts of the country.
Parts of North-West India and adjoining Central India witnessed rain or thunder-showers during the 24 hours ending on this (Sunday) morning as a cooler western disturbance digged in over the region.
As a result, few places over Jammu & Kashmir and at isolated places over Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and East Madhya Pradesh witnessed thunderstorm activity during this period.
MOISTURE INCURSION
Elsewhere, the hills of Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, South Interior Karnataka, Telangana, Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu and Puducherry also experienced similar weather.
India Met Department (IMD) said in an update that moisture incursion from the Arabian Sea will continue to trigger rain/thunderstorm over many parts of North-West, North-East and Peninsular India today.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast over Assam and Meghalaya during the next three days and isolated heavy rainfall likely over Arunachal Pradesh and the hills of Bengal during next two days.
An outlook from The Weather Company, an IBM Business, said that a cyclonic circulation hovers over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam dictating the regional weather.
In addition, northwesterly flows (from the western disturbance) and southwesterly flows (triggered by the circulation over Arunachal Pradesh) would converge over North-East India.
This, The Weather Company said, would preside over continued, multi-day, severe thunder activity over the region through this week, accompanied by heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.

FOLLOW-UP WESTERLY
The best chances for rain will be over Arunachal Pradesh, an assessment by The Weather Company said. Two-day total rainfall measuring up to 12 cm is forecast over Central Arunachal Pradesh.
The western disturbance and its induced cyclonic circulation will bring scattered snow or rain with thunderstorms over the higher reaches and plains of North and Central India.
The ongoing snow/rainfall will abate by this (Sunday) evening, however, another round of snow/rainfall will start on Monday afternoon due to a follow-up western disturbance. On Sunday, the IMD traced the disturbance to over Iran.
The successive disturbances will not just trigger rain or thunderstorms over the hills of the North but also associated cloud cover, says The Weather Company.
Maximum temperatures will be cooler or much cooler than normal across the plains during the week. Even though much cooler than normal, maximum temperature in Delhi will be in the upper 30s next week.
Towards the South, isolated rain and thunderstorms will prevail over Kerala and adjoining states due to a trough pushing in from Telangana to the Comorin region.
Maximum temperatures reaching more than 40 deg Celsius will persist over parts of West, Central, South and and East India, The Weather Company said.
