AHMEDABAD: Fifty days after the charred body of Chirag Patel, a journalist with a Gujarati news channel, was found at Kathwada Road in mysterious circumstances investigators still have not secured his call and data records for his phone, which mysteriously has still not been found.
On Saturday, forensic experts confirmed that traces of hydrocarbons were found on his charred body. Police say they cannot still ascertain whether the case involves murder, or suicide.
"We have found three bits of CCTV footage of Patel, but in all three clips, he Patel is seen alone. We have thus struck a dead end unless we chance upon some other evidence," a senior crime branch official said.
Soon after Patel's body was found, police attempted a re-construction of the incident, using 3-dimensional cameras and other sophisticated equipment.
ACP (crime branch) Bhagirathsinh Gohil said the postmortem report also does not indicate any external injury to his body. "We are yet to receive the report for his viscera sample, and will be able to throw more light on his death after that getting that," said Gohil.
The mystery of his missing mobile phone is still a puzzle for crime branch. "We, along with the cyber cell of city crime branch, have asked for the call detail records of Chirag Patel to know who he was in contact with on the day he went missing," added Gohil.

Chirag Patel had filed several RTI (Right to Information) applications.
Top police officials had earlier transferred the case to crime branch and said that six IPS officers, from crime branch, the cyber cell, and DCP Zone 5 - in whose jurisdiction the offence took place - would be assisting the investigation.
