Hires gang to recover photos from his cellphone; one held

The T.P. Chatram police on Saturday arrested a 26-year-old member of a three-member gang for kidnapping a college student.

The gang was allegedly asked by the victim’s former girlfriend, living in the U.S., to get hold of his cellphone. He had private pictures of the girl that he refused to part with after break-up, the police said.

The victim, Naveeth Ahamed, 21, was returning from college on his motorcycle on Thursday when he was intercepted by three persons in T.P. Chatram. He was taken away on a motorcycle, confined to a secluded place near Jafferkhanpet and beaten up. They abandoned him after robbing him of his watch and cellphone.

S. Rajendran, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kilpauk, asked a special team to track down the accused.

The team traced Baskar and arrested him. He admitted that he and two others were tasked to attack Mr. Ahamed by his former girlfriend.
