MOHALI:
Mohali jumped one place to be ranked eighth out of 22 districts in the state in the Class XII results of the Punjab School Education Board declared on Saturday, scoring an all-time high pass percentage of 89.86% as compared to 71.80% in 2018 and 56.64% in 2017.
Out of 6,035 students who had appeared for the exams in the district, 5,423 passed. The state’s overall pass percentage was 86.41%, which was 65.97% in 2018, announced board chairman Manohar Kant Kalohia.
Girls once again outnumbered boys on the topper list in the district. Six students figured in the merit list. Three students are from humanities, two from science and one from vocational stream. Two students are from Government Senior Secondary School, Mubarakpur, Zirakpur; two from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Kharar, and one each from Government Model Senior Secondary School, Phase IIIB1, Mohali, and Government Senior Secondary School, Hoshiarpur, Mullanpur.
Mohali topper Harvir Kaur is ranked eighth in the state merit list, second-rank holder Taranpreet Singh is ninth position and Parminder Pal Singh, who stood third in the district, is 17th in the state.
The improved pass percentage of the district can be attributed to relaxation in evaluation of answer sheets as well as relaxing the difficulty levels for students. Kalohia said, “This substantial improvement is primarily due to some new techniques introduced during this year. Students were given model test papers and the teachers ensured practice which helped improve the results.”
