All arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of repoll in booth number 10 in Kamaraj Nagar Assembly constituency on Sunday. Polling will be held at the booth set up in the office of the Junior Engineer of the Electricity Department in Venkata Nagar, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
According to an official, three electronic voting machines (EVM) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) equipment have been set up for repoll and one machine would be selected after randomisation.
EVMs loaded
Names and symbols of all contesting candidates had been arranged. Information about repoll had been conveyed to all households concerned.
District Election Officer and Collector T. Arun reviewed the security arrangements at the booth.
Local police, along with personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), have been deployed in the area.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission has appointed two central observers for the repoll. They are R.K. Mehta, general observer and Sumedha Dwevedi, police observer.
The Election Commission ordered repoll in the booth following a complaint that officials had not cleared the mock poll votes recorded on the Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machine.
The mock polling was conducted before the actual election on April 18. While the 50 mock votes polled on the EVM were deleted, the presiding officer failed to clear the votes from the VVPAT machine.
This was identified during scrutiny the same day and the Election Commission was informed.
The booth has 952 voters — 473 men and 479 women.
An official said that counting of the votes polled on May 12 would be held along with the counting of votes polled in all Assembly segments on May 23 starting with postal and service votes.
Counting staff would be selected through randomisation, the District Election Officer added.
