Four devotees including a boy and woman were killed and 12 others sustained injuries after the tractor in which they were travelling toppled on Hatyalu Narasimhaswamy Hill in Tiptur taluk of Tumakuru district on Saturday.
The police said that the deceased have been identified as the driver of the tractor Shivalingaiah (50) of Madapura village in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk of Tumakuru district; Doddaningaiah (48) and Shankaramma (45), from Ramaghatta in Chikkanayakanahalli taluk, who were killed on the spot; and Bhuvan (7), who died on the way to the hospital.
Around 20 people from Chikkanayakanahalli taluk had travelled in the trailer of the tractor to Hatyalu Narasimhaswamy Hill to perform the ‘Hariseve’ ritual. While they were returning, the tractor overturned after the driver lost control of the vehicle while coming down the steep hill at 5 p.m. As a result, three persons were killed on the spot while the boy Bhuvan died on the way to the hospital. Also, 12 devotees suffered minor injuries in the incident.
A case has been registered at K.B. Cross police station.
