Health workers will check for stagnant water in houses

To prevent the possibility of seasonal diseases spreading, GVMC launched a two-day mass surveillance all over the city. Encouraged by the results of such a drive in the last year, GVMC embarked on a similar exercise this year too.

In the drive, health workers visit all the houses, see whether there is any stagnant water anywhere in the house or on the terrace, whether the water tanks are properly closed to prevent any possibility of breeding of mosquitoes.

Pamphlets are distributed on the prevention of vector-borne seasonal fevers like dengue and malaria. Each worker is assigned 60 houses.

Municipal Commissioner M. Hari Narayanan participated in the surveillance in the morning by visiting various areas. He went into bylanes and several houses and interacted with the residents. He also saw how residents were storing water and whether there were any larvae in the stored water.

Mr. Hari Narayanan visited Rajaka Veedhi in Zone II, Nerella Koneru and Kobbarithota in One Town area in Zone III and Gollalapalem in Zone IV.

Officials said any cesspools or stagnant water identified would be cleaned up and closed in the next few days.

The drive will continue on Sunday too.
