NEW DELHI: It was a tough week for Dalal Street with benchmark indices down in the dumps, as trade war fears reared its ugly head once again.

Election uncertainty amid selling by FIIs and elevated crude prices also caused investors pain.

While the action remained high in Indian market this week, Twitter was not to be left behind with opinions and views flowing in.

Shyam Sekhar, co-founder, iThought said when investment anchoring is dominant ahead of elections, investors are caught in a web of speculative biases.


Sandip Sabharwal, independent market adviser although stated that traders were still bullish even in this market as the put-call remained elevated.


Basant Maheshwari of Basant Maheshwari Wealth Advisers observed that the trading screens were the new EVMs. He said the new market theory that went around is if Nifty is up that is because Narendra Modi will come back to power, but if Nifty is down then the speculation is rife that the fight is getting tough in this general election.


But without doubt, the investor sentiment seemed to be wavering, as the flows into equity and balanced mutual funds declined significantly. Yet, Sabharwal quashed any reasons to worry as a stable government would mean the flows would look up again in June, even if May will be not as exciting. But the big question remains, will India get a stable government?

Shankar Sharma says Uber should have gone for its IPO 2-3 years back. "Always IPO in the early to mid-stage of the growth cycle. That's because the market always overpays for growth," added Sharma.


On a lighter note, Samir Arora of Helios Capital joked that thankfully Uber IPO failed otherwise FAANG stocks would have soon become "FAANGU".
