BJP, Congress two sides of same coin: Mayawati

SASARAM: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Saturday called upon Dalits, tribal and other backward classes to keep master key in their hands in the formation of government at the Centre and in the state, so that they could avail their rights provided by the Constitution.
Addressing an election campaign at airport ground in Bhabhua in favour of the BSP’s nominee for Sasaram parliamentary constituency Manoj Ram, Mayawati came down heavily on the Congress, saying like BJP, the Congress too did nothing for the benefit of Dalits and backwards.
“Both parties are against reservation and they will gradually abolish it. The Congress’s NYAY scheme is an absurd idea. If elected to power, the BSP will ensure permanent job in private and government sectors for the unemployed youths,” Mayawati said.
She also claimed that B R Ambedkar had resigned from the Jawaharlal Nehru cabinet after the latter failed to implement reservation policy and form backward commission.
Taking credit for implementation of Mandal Commission report, Mayawati said the BSP, with just three MPs, had extended outside support to V P Singh government in 1989 with two conditions – implementation of Mandal Commission report and conferring Bharat Ratna award to Ambedkar.

She added that despite many provisions in the Constitution for the welfare of Dalits and backward classes, neither the Congress nor the BJP implemented them completely. “BSP will play a key role in formation of the next government at the Centre,” Mayawati said.
She said the PM has failed to keep the promises he had made before 2014 general elections. “The PM is doing chaukidari of industrialists and capitalists instead of common people,” the BSP chief added.
