Pune: Police rescue kidnapped minor girl, accused held

PUNE: Crime branch officials on Sunday rescued a 15-year-old minor girl and arrested her kidnapper, who had taken to the girl to Tav village in Lavasa city recently.
The policemen, after receiving a tip off, trekked the hilly terrain and nabbed the accused.
Police said that the suspect was a family friend of the girl.
Police said that the girl was reported missing in February this year. A missing person’s complaint was registered with the Chatushrungi police station in this regard. The family members and police authorities were continuously searching the missing girl.
The 21-year-old accused, a resident of Aundh, had taken the girl to a small hamlet located across the Varasgaon dam. The only means to reach the village is a boat ride.

The police team had received a tip off on the girl’s whereabouts in Lavasa area. Without wasting anytime, the team went to Lavasa. The policemen boarded a boat when the man the spotted them. He took the girl and reached the top of the hill.
After reaching the spot, police came to know that the man had taken the girl to the hill. “There was no option left but to trek the hill. We all trekked through the hill and surrounded the suspect after an hour,” police said.
