CALANGUTE: There are no plans to shift the
Calangute fish
market from its present location to a new spot at Bhodkovodh, along the Mapusa-Calangute road, said deputy speaker and Calangute legislator
Michael Lobo.
Speaking to reporters recently, he said some disgruntled political elements have been spreading rumours that the market is being relocated, but denied any such plans.
“The existing market is an age-old market which has been there for a long time and it will continue to remain there. The project we have planned at Bhodkovodh is for a government office building where all the offices like the
PWD, electricity department, post office, etc, will be at one location for the benefit of the public,” Lobo said.
He also said the Calangute fish market will continue to remain exclusively for Goan fish vendors.
“We will never allow migrant fish vendors in the Calangute fish market. All the vendors here are Goans from Calangute,
Candolim and surrounding areas. Calangute market is known for its fresh fish as the fish sold here is the daily catch brought in by traditional fishermen,” he said.
