Double episode series premiere ★★★

Knowing this was the last trip Women’s Weekly cooking guru Lyndey Milan would make with her actor son Blair before his death from leukaemia in 2011 makes it all the more surreal. What seems a fun and informative jaunt through the fish markets and liqueur bars of Athens is clearly a precious time. The close pair have such a blast in the opener that they save the actual cooking for later episodes.

KILLING EVE

★★★★★

Powered by the magnificently twisted sensibilities of new-wave feminist mover and shaker Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), whose screenplay of Luke Jennings’ novels visualises the enraged woman in the psychopathic character of Russian assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer), this tumultuous second season veers from one terrifying surprise to the next. Comer and Sandra Oh are ravishingly vital as the sickly entwined leads. Even their darkest moments are searingly enlightening.

SLIDING DOORS (MOVIE)

★★★½

Apart from making a powerful statement about hairstyles and personalities (long, straight brown locks equal clueless doormat; a blonde pixie cut indicates smarts and ambition), this 1998 Gwyneth Paltrow vehicle gave us a new term to describe life’s forks in the road. The literal and figurative “sliding doors” moment for her character, public relations assistant Helen, facilitates alternate storylines about the fallout of infidelity.
