A 52-year-old realtor who was kidnapped in Thoraipakkam was released after a payment of ₹1 crore as ransom.

Mohammed Thariq, a realtor from Kolathur, had promised two prospective buyers that he would execute registration for a piece of land. Even after obtaining ₹1.5 crore as advance, he was delaying the deal. As the duo threatened him, Thariq brought Johnson, Elango and three others from Tirunelveli to hold a kangaroo court, while they stayed at a lodge in Thoraipakkam. When Thariq reached the lodge early Saturday, the gang pulled a gun and hit him on the head. They demanded original documents and a ransom of ₹1 crore from Thariq’s wife over the phone.

After collecting the documents and the money, they released Thariq.
