Excise intensifies drive to seize banned substances

An Excise narcotic special squad led by Excise circle inspector V. Robert has arrested two youths and seized Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), ganja and other banned drugs from the KSRTC bus stand premises here.

According to officials, the arrested have been identified as Bipin Mathew, 27, of Neeleswaram, Kasaragod, and Mohammed Hadil, 24, of Kanhangad, Kasaragod.

Bipin was arrested with 0.5 gm of MDMA, 20 gram of ganja and Tapentadol tablets.

Officials said that the seized drugs were for his personal use.

He was later released on bail.

Following his arrest, the Excise team recovered seven grams of MDMA worth ₹50,000 and 25 gram of ganja from Mohammed Hadil.

The seized MDMA was meant for sale in Alappuzha town.

He was produced before a local court and remanded in judicial custody, officials said.

Assistant Excise Commissioner K.K. Anil Kumar said that they had intensified the drive to seize and prevent the use of banned substances in the district.
