AMBALA: On Friday, almost all the private schools in the district remained closed due to which nearly 2 lakh students were not able to attend their classes. The protest by the private schools was held on the call of National Independent Schools Alliance (NISA) against Rule 134-A (Right to Education (RTE) in Haryana). The associates of the private schools while protesting reached Ambala deputy commissioner (DC) office where they have handed over a memorandum of demands.

The protest was held under the leadership of NISA president Kulbhushan Sharma and the private school associates handed over the memorandum to an official of the district administration.

In is noteworthy that the private schools in Haryana have been admitting the deserving students under Rule 134-A, but since last nearly four years the schools have not been reimbursed by the Haryana Government.

The NISA demanded before admitting the students for the present session of 2019-20, they should be first reimbursed the pending fees of the students admitted during the last four years. Moreover, private schools have also demanded proper enquiry into the income certificates of the parents admitting their children under Rule 134-A, as there have been cases where the parents have obtained income certificates showing less income after hiding the actual income.

Kulbhushan said, "The government pays an allowance of Rs 1125 per month to its employees for the education of their children and in such way, the government should also reimburse the private schools for the admissions taken under Rule 134-A. The state government is adopting double standards and the NISA will not admit the same. If the government does not accept our demand state-level agitation will be initiated and the government will also have to bear its reaction in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections."

In the absence of DC, district revenue officer Vinod Sharma accepted the memorandum of demand submitted by the private schools.

TOI tried reaching the concerned officials of the Education Department but they remained incommunicado.
