Man, daughter killed in accident

A man and his daughter were killed while another daughter is battling for life at the hospital after the car they were travelling hit the side wall of a bridge near Attur on the Salem – Ulundurpet National Highway on Saturday.

Parthiban (49), of Mogappair in Chennai, is working in an oil company at Dubai and recently he returned home on vacation. He was married to Kavitha (42) and they have two daughters, Dharshini (19), who had recently written her NEET examination, and Deeksha (14), a Class Six student.

On Saturday, they were on their way to visit their relatives at Salem and Parthiban was on the wheels. While passing through the bridge at Thulukkanur, Parthiban lost control of the vehicle and the car hit the side wall. In the impact, the car caught fire and other motorists put off the fire. Parthiban died on the spot. While his two daughters suffered serious injuries, Kavitha escaped with minor injuries.

Attur police rescued Dharshini and Deeksha and admitted them to the Attur Government Hospital. However, Dharshini died at the hospital. Deeksha was shifted to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital in Salem and is undergoing treatment. Doctors said that her condition continues to be critical. A case was registered and inquiry is on.
