Mumbai: The husband of the general secretary of Congress party Priyanka Gandhi, Robert Vadra, visited the Mumbadevi temple in south Mumbai, only to run into Narendra Modi ‘bhakts’, who loudly began chanting, ‘Modi, Modi, Modi’, ‘Modi Zindabad’ and ‘Bharatmata Ki Jai’ on the temple premises. However, the police presence prevented any untoward incident. Vadra was accorded tight police security and escorted both inside and outside the temple during his short visit.
When the media tried to seek Vadra’s response on the Prime Minister alluding to the former’s late father-in-law and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in his speeches, he refused to answer. “I came to the temple for darshan and to seek blessings. I will not speak on politics,” said Vadra. However, the ‘bhakts’ defended their sloganeering, saying they did so as they wanted Modi to be re-elected. The sloganeers said they belonged to the Bharatiya Janata Party and they had done this on their own, not because they had instructions to do so.
