Amid allegations and counter-allegations over "obscene and derogatory" pamphlet targeting AAP's East Delhi candidate Atishi, BJP's Gautam Gambhir was on Friday accused of using a "duplicate" to campaign for him as he allegedly sat in the car to avoid heat.

The former cricketer, however, strongly denied the allegation and said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) "finds a fixation everyday, this time they found my clone."

The photo was first tweeted by AAP's social media head Ankit Lal. "Heard about stunt double in films, runners in cricket but seeing a campaign duplicate for the first time," Lal said in a Hindi caption.

It was retweeted by Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia who said, "This is the 'mahamilawat' between the Congress and the BJP. Gautam Gambhir is sitting in an air-conditioned car. He has a problem with the heat. In his place, a duplicate wearing a cap is standing. Workers are garlanding the duplicate taking him as Gambhir. And this duplicate is a Congress leader in reality," Sisodia said.

Rejecting the claim, Gambhir said, "Faced with a certain defeat, @AAP finds a fixation everyday, this time they found my clone!!"

AAP's Atishi and BJP's Gautam Gambhir are locked in a bitter battle in East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency with Congress' Arvind Singh Lovely making the contest triangular.

On Thursday, AAP accused Gambhir of distributing "obscene and derogatory" pamphlet targeting Atishi, a charge the cricketer-turned-politician denied. Atishi on Friday complained to the Delhi Commission for Women over the pamphlet holding Gambhir directly responsible.

Gambhir had rejected the charge and sent a notice to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia and Atishi for alleged defamation, demanding that they withdraw the allegation and tender an unconditional apology over the matter.

The AAP too sent a notice to Gambhir and the BJP Friday demanding an apology over the pamphlet row, failing which, it said, "appropriate legal proceedings will be initiated".

Atishi on Thursday broke down while reading the pamphlet against her, that she alleged has been distributed in the constituency. The BJP alleged that the AAP was staging such incidents.

East Delhi Lok Sabha seat will go to polls in the sixth phase of general elections on Sunday along with other six parliamentary constituencies in the national capital. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
