Civic students use holidays to polish English skills

Mumbai: Learning the English language is during summer vacation is currently trending, claim students. Students who have finished taking their final examinations are enrolling in English speaking classes, to improve their vocabulary and enhance their communication skills. These students are mostly from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) schools. Students reveal they want use vacation time to polish their skills and learn how to speak fluent English. Tanushree Pandit, a student, said, “We cannot focus on learning the English language from scratch during regular school. So vacations are the perfect time to devote our energies to help us devote our attention to learning the language thoroughly.”

Summer classes teach English in a creative way, claimed students. Yugang Desai, a student, said, “I have joined summer classes where they teach English using live models like fruits, vegetables and toys. This helps us remember the alphabets and understand the correct use of grammar.” Parents claim students of civic schools require additional help in English. Kishore Mane, a parent, said, “Majority of students in civic schools do not speak English at home. This makes it difficult for them to cope with the syllabus in school. Summer classes help them improve their communication skills before the next academic year.” While Zenneth Hussain, a teacher, said, “We try to communicate with students in English. It is a slow process but it is better if students are taught English right from childhood. This makes it easier for them to grasp the language.”
