MUMBAI: A
mantralaya staffer who was posted on polling duty at
Shivadi polling station passed away on Saturday early morning.
Family members and colleagues of
Priti Durve (31) have complained that despite knowing that she was unwell and suffering from Jaundice the election office did not give her a relaxation from work.
Officials said that Durve felt sick on April 29 the polling day, she was sent back home, infarct some of her colleagues from the polling staff suggested that she go to the hospital. "She was dropped off at the station and she was very unwell in the train and was then admitted to a hospital where she passed away on Saturday," said an official.
However the Mumbai city district election officer
Shivaji Jondhale said that she had never applied for an exemption from
poll duty and they were unaware that she was suffering from Jaundice. "We did not get any application seeking relaxation. If we were told, we would have considered her request," said Jondhale. He said that nearly 1900 government and semi-government staff who was supposed to be on poll duty were exempted after they submitted their medical certificate.
