Ludhiana cops arrest gangster with arms, contraband

LUDHIANA: Ludhiana rural police on Friday evening arrested a gangster and recovered an illegal revolver, 260 grams intoxicating powder and fourteen live rounds from him. The accused was identified as Gurjant Singh Bhatti of Saddu Shahwala, in Ferozepur district of Punjab.
Giving details, SSP Ludhiana (Rural) Varinder Singh Brar said that in view of Lok Sabha election 2019, the police have launched a special campaign against anti-social elements. He added that as part of the campaign, a police party was present at Link Road, Galib Kokri, Pul Sua near Galib Kalan regarding investigation relating to a case of July 13, 2015 of Sadar Jagraon.
Police officials said that the police team had received secret information that the accused was coming from Nanaksar side via Galib Kokri and was going to Ferozepur side in Fortuner bearing registration Number UP 32 GF 1005. They added that police party set up a check-post at the spot and signalled the vehicle coming from Galib side to stop.

The police officer said that the driver stopped the vehicle and tried to escape, but the police party managed to apprehend him. He added that after identification, police party searched the accused.
“On seeing the right pocket of his trouser that seemed to be bulky and on checking, a .32 bore revolver was recovered from it. On opening it, six live rounds were recovered and apart from that eight live rounds were also recovered from the right pocket,” said police. “On search of vehicle, 260 grams of intoxicating powder was recovered from driver side inner door”. It added that after recovery, the accused was booked under various sections of NDPS act and Arm act at Sadar Jagraon police station.
