HYDERABAD: Following in the footsteps of corporate junior colleges, a few schools in the city have started conducting classes as well, especially for class 10 students.
Students are forced to attend classes from 8.30am to 2pm even during the summer vacation, leaving them with no time to relax or pursue their hobbies.
“Almost all corporate and big private schools have started conducting classes for class 10 students. Children were given hardly two weeks of vacation,” said Venkata Sainath, Joint Secretary of Hyderabad Schools Parents Association. He added that educational department officials have been least bothered to take action against these erring schools and behave as if their only job is to take care of administrative work.
Students said that schools are conducting classes in hostels’ blocks and are asking students to not wear the uniform so they don’t get into trouble.
“My school has been conducting classes during holidays without break. We have even complained to the officials, but no action has been initiated,” said a student studying in a corporate school located near Medchal Highway.

Another class 10 student of a private school located in Ranga Reddy district said “We were asked to come in colour dress so that no one realizes that classes are being conducted. They are in a hurry to complete the syllabus so that more time can be dedicated for revision.”
As per norms of the school education department, all schools in the state have to remain closed until May 31 for summer vacations. Board officials were unavailable for comment.
