PANAJI: Chief minister Pramod Sawant, who holds the education ministry, appears to be in the dark about the functioning of Goa University, said BJP coalition partner Goa Forward Party here on Friday.

Party spokespersons said that a recruitment fraud was underway at Goa University where non-Goans were being selected for teaching jobs while the chief minister remained clueless about the issue.

"The deserving Goans who should get jobs are being done an injustice," said GFP vice president for organizational matter Dilip Prabhudesai.

Goa University has reportedly relaxed the 15-year mandatory domicile norm and fluency in Konkani criteria for recruitment of vacant teaching posts at the university.

Prabhudesai further said that the "conspiracy to recruit non-Goans" should be brought to a halt by the chief minister.

"Any relaxation of the university statutes has to be granted by the government. The university just cannot decide to relax certain statutes. The CM has been left in the dark and this has been brought to his notice," Prabhudesai said.
