‘Yoga Girls’ make Ahmedabad cops stretch out for fitness

Ahmedabad cops have been learning yoga skills from two young women jawans of Lok Rakshak Dal
AHMEDABAD: Even as a team of women ATS officials brought dreaded gangster Jusab Alarakha to his knees in the jungles near Botad, city cops have been learning yoga skills from two young women jawans of Lok Rakshak Dal (unarmed unit) Rashmi Khodbhaya, 27, and Ritu Chavda, 20. The city HQ of Ahmedabad police have roped them in to train personnel from police stations and agencies across the city in yoga. Khodbhaya, who married two years ago, is posted in Sola police station and Chavda, 20, is posted in Ghatlodia.
Joint commissioner of police HQ, Khursheed Ahmed Saiyed said Khodbhaya and Chavda are masters in their art and hence they have been chosen to give yoga training to policemen across the city.

Assistant commissioner of police HQ, Deva Patel said Khodbhaya has a master’s degree in yoga and have also participated and won several national level yoga competitions. “She is also training six participants at Gandhinagar centre, who will be representing Gujarat in the All India Police Federation Games to be held by Border Security Force (BSF) in June these year,” said ACP Patel.

Khodbhaya said that following the circular issued by city police chief A K Singh, she and Chavda have been training batches of policemen every Monday and Thursday at the HQ ground. “Policemen take part in the training with great zeal and the result can be seen in their level of fitness,” Khodbhaya said.
Chavda, who learnt the art while attending NCC, said yoga helps not only physically but also keeps one mentally fit. “It relaxes you and that brings maximum output for an individual doing yoga. It makes us feel proud to have been given the responsibility of training our colleagues in yoga,” she added.
