A new scheme “Ladies First” with a dedicated helpline number “96552-20100” that enables women to bring out their problems and that of others to the notice of the police for speedy action was launched here on Saturday.
Superintendent of Police S. Sakthi Ganesan launched the new scheme at the district police office.
He said that women face problems at home, work place, on the road and other places and also hear about problems of other women, who need help.
They can call the number and give the details so that the police in concerned jurisdiction can act swiftly and bring out necessary solutions.
He said that the name and details of the complainant will be kept confidential and the number can be reached round-the-clock.
“All the complaints will be sorted out with 24 hours,” he said. He also requested the women in distress to approach their nearest police station for solving their problems. The number is linked to the District Control Room and is monitored directly by the Superintendent of Police.
The district police had already launched a scheme “Hello Seniors” in January this year where elderly persons can lodge complaints or narrate their problems to the mobile number “96558-88100” for necessary action. The scheme had received good response as over 300 complaints received so far were disposed of.
