The rural district unit of Communist Party of India has urged the district administration to take steps to address shortage of drinking water supply in rural areas.
A resolution adopted at a meeting of the CPI Rural District Executive Committee and District Committee said several parts of the district, including Manapparai, Marungapuri, Vaiyampatti, Thuraiyur, Uppilliyapuram, Thathaiyengarpet and Thottiyam, were facing drought-like conditions and there was short supply of drinking water. Steps should be taken to overcome it, the resolution said.
It also called upon the government to sanction compensation to banana growers whose crops were damaged in strong winds in Thottiyam, Kattuputhur, Manachanallur and other parts of the district.
