Mom faked kidnapping, threw baby down ravine: sheriff

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Henderson County Sheriff Lowell Griffin says a North Carolina mother faked her own kidnapping and that of her 7-week-old baby.

The mother who is accused of throwing her daughter down a steep ravine has been charged with attempted first-degree murder.

35-year-old Krista Madden is being held on $750,000 bond.

The sheriff says the infant was in her car seat when Madden tossed her down a 75-foot ravine.

"By the grace of God we are standing here with a child that's been discovered and is alive," Griffin said.
