“The An-12 transport aircraft was successfully intercepted by alert IAF air defence aircraft and was forced to land at Jaipur airfield,” an IAF spokesperson said in a statement.

A Delhi-bound Georgian An-12 transport aircraft that took off from Karachi on May 10 afternoon was intercepted by the Indian Air Force fighters after it deviated from its flight path and entered Indian air space from an unscheduled point in North Gujarat.

“The aircraft was successfully intercepted by alert IAF air defence aircraft and was forced to land at Jaipur airfield,” an IAF spokesperson said in a statement.

IAF had scrambled Su-30MKI fighters to intercept the An-12 as soon as it was detected by radars.

Further details are awaited from the IAF.

Our Jaipur correspondent adds:

The An-12 aircraft is parked near State VIP hangar at the Sanganer airport in Jaipur. Fire tenders and ambulances are pressed into service. An investigation is in progress.
