Talking about privacy, Pichai targets Apple and says that privacy should be available to all and not only those who purchase premium products. He says that privacy is for all. “For us, that means privacy cannot be a luxury good offered only to people who can afford to buy premium products and services. Privacy must be equally available to everyone in the world,” says Pichai.
He goes on to say how Android gives users the option to share their data where they want and how they want. In the recent Google IO 2019 keynote, the company showed how serious it if when it comes to privacy by introducing Incognito Mode in Google Maps as well. It is already present in Google Chrome and YouTube.
Pichai says that institutions and legislative bodies too have a major role in ensuring user’s data privacy. However, this is something on which the company is not being totally dependent. “Legislation will help us work toward ensuring that privacy protections are available to more people around the world. But we’re not waiting for it. We have a responsibility to lead. And we’ll do so in the same spirit we always have, by offering products that make privacy a reality for everyone,” concluded Pichai.
