Police deploy forces to stop clashes in the village

Chairs were hurled and stones pelted between activists of the Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samithi at a MPTC/ZPTC poll campaign being addressed by Telangana Congress president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy here on Friday.

The meeting at Peekla Naik thanda in the mandal turned violent after a TRS activist Shiva asked Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy: “What did the Congress do for the village?”

Soon Congress leaders, reportedly Lakavath Saidulu, brother of MPTC candidate Lakavath Rama and others, attacked the person with plastic chairs, videos of which went viral in the media. Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy could be heard appealing to Mr. Saidulu in the video, not to resort to violence.

Normalcy was restored for then. However, after TPCC chief left the venue, TRS activists gathered at the residence of Mr. Saidulu and vandalised his house. Glass panes were broken, air conditioner unit damaged and cement blocks smashed. The village was gripped in tension the whole afternoon with people hurling stones at each other and running everywhere.

Chintalapalem police told The Hindu that there were only two constables at the venue as they were intimated about the meeting only at the last minute. Senior officers visited the village. in the evening and deployed a larger police force. Chintalapalem sub-inspector said several people were detained for questioning, and an investigation has been opened.
