COIMBATORE: Child rights forums have launched a campaign to curtail sexual offences against children by seeking leaders of political parties to take a pledge to create ‘rape free India’. They have also sought political parties to sack party members facing charges of sexual offences, besides allocation of 10% funds in the union budget for child protection.

G Umashankar, a child rights activist from the city, said leaders from prominent state and national political parties have signed a pledge to make India rape free by 2022. “Till date, 19 candidates from the state have pledged to ensure the safety of women and children and support the campaign. Top leaders from national parties have also pledged to support the move.”
The campaign is spearheaded by Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation and Nether’s Economic and Educational Development Society.
