31-yr-old man held for raping woman multiple times

A 31-year-old man on Thursday was charged with rape as he allegedly gave a false promise of marriage. The accused and complainant have been in a relationship since 2016. The survivor is 45 days pregnant with the accused’s child and she approached the police after he refused to marry her.

According to the Gorai police, the complainant used to work with the accused in a Malad firm in 2016. The complainant and the accused got into a relationship with the accused promising to marry her. The accused first took her to a hotel in Gorai in 2016 and the complainant has provided police with the names of the other hotels across the city where he allegedly raped her.

According to the police, in 2019, the complainant became pregnant and asked the accused to marry her, but he refused. The complainant left her old job owing to the relationship and took up a new job. She lives with her ailing mother.

She approached the local police and an FIR was registered on April 21 under section 376 of the IPC. The case was transferred to Gorai police . Senior inspector of Gorai police Ramesh Nangare said, “We have arrested the accused from his Pant Nagar home.”

“We will subject him to a medical test. He is in our custody till May 13,” said another officer.
