Mahatma Gandhi University has plans to roll out a comprehensive examination monitoring software that would cut delays and step up efficiency of the system using online tools.
The proposed software, which aims at integrating all examination-related works and services online, is expected to be ready in six months. From registration of a student to online evaluation of answer scripts, the software system is expected to streamline the processes involved digitally.
“We have tested how such a software can be integrated into the existing system. Some of the features of the exam monitoring software include online false numbering of answer scripts, sending SMS alerts to students and parents on exams and changes in schedule, and providing degree certificates online with the digital signature of the Vice Chancellor,” said R. Pragash, Syndicate member and convener of its subcommittee on examinations.
Monitoring
The software enables the monitoring of candidates enrolled at different stages and maintain track of supervisors and examiners.
The varsity plans to start the online evaluation of answer scripts using the software in the first phase of implementation. Dr. Pragash said that the system will give information on the number of copies to be evaluated and the number of faculty members available for evaluation. The evaluators can access the answer scripts as per the rules prescribed by the varsity using a special ID and password, he said.
The proposed system will help in automating the degree distribution process of the university. Students can apply online for their degree certificates. The software will help them track the status of their application. They will receive alerts in their registered mobile phones when the degree certificates are ready.
Going digital
With the implementation of the system, the entire process related to the conduct of exams beginning from the registration of candidates to monitoring and preparation of results will go digital.
The move to shift to an online exam management system comes close on the heels of the publication of the results of the final semester undergraduate exams in record time this year. The evaluation process and the publication of results were done in 10 days.
