Nathan Fillion is coming back for another year on television. ABC has just ordered a second season of The Rookie, which stars Fillion as -- you guessed it! -- a rookie on the Los Angeles police force.

Fillion, who also serves as an executive producer on the show, plays John Nolan, a 40-year-old who uproots his life and moves out west to become a police officer. As the title of the show suggests, he's a rookie on the force, and the oldest rookie on the force. Not only does he have to prove himself to his fellow officers, he also has to prove that he belongs here and that this isn't just some sort of "mid-life crisis" scenario. He's going to have TK episodes to do that during Season 2.

Along with Fillion, the series also stars Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Titus Makin, Mercedes Mason, Melissa O'Neil, Afton Williamson, and Eric Winter.

The Rookie isn't the only ABC show with cause to celebrate; the network has also renewed the sweet and deeply satisfying comedy Fresh Off the Boat for a sixth season and the refreshingly optimistic family comedy Single Parents for season 2. American Housewife is returning for season 4, and Bless This Mess is getting a second season.
