This slide dubbed the "world's longest" has claimed the lives of two tourists and injured a dozen more, including six children.

The horrific accident happened at the amusement park known as The Children's Yard in Chengdu, capital of China's southwestern province of Sichuan.

According to an official statement, 14 tourists - including eight adults and six children - fell off the long stainless-steel slide at roughly 5pm on Wednesday, May 1.

The visitors were speeding down the 235m slide when they collided with one another because some were travelling faster than others.

The injured were taken to hospital where two adults were confirmed dead while 12 others received treatment.

Staff members, who work with the park’s operator - Chengdu Jacaranda Agricultural Development Co Ltd - which is currently under investigation, have been arrested.

The Children's Yard has been temporarily closed as the enquiry continues.
