HYDERABAD: A three-year-old girl is battling for life after a police patrolling vehicle ran over her in a parking lot at Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Yadadri on Thursday. B Prashanti was sleeping in the parking area along with her father Mallesh under a tree when the accident occurred. A head constable, who drove the Innova car, was arrested and a case has been booked.
Prashanthi had darshan at the temple with her father and went to the parking lot to take a quick nap. The accident took place at 10.30am. “Shekhar, head constable with City Armed Reserve, was at the wheel. While reversing the Innova, he did not see the girl, who came under the left front tyre when he moved the jeep forward,” DCP, Bhongir, Narayana Reddy said. The cop along with another constable came to Yadadri to have darshan at the temple.

The girl was rushed to Government Hospital in Bhongir where she was given first-aid and shifted to a private hospital in LB Nagar after her condition turned critical. “She is on a ventilator support. The girl has suffered a serious head injury and internal injuries,” said Mahesh Bhagwat, police commissioner, Rachakonda. The girl’s family resides in Saidabad here.
Shekhar, who was posted to Yadadri for phase II election of zilla parishad territorial constituencies (ZPTCs) and mandal parishad territorial constituencies (MPTCs), took the patrolling vehicle to visit the temple. Shekhar, who was a constable, was recently promoted as head constable and visited the temple for thanksgiving. Shekhar was attached to the police headquarters and arrested by the Yadadri police.
