The PWD Grounds here is a hive of activity during the annual fete

The PWD Grounds here is a hive of activity ever since the annual industrial exhibition kicked off. The sprawling ground fills with people of all age groups and from various walks of life crowding the stalls put up by traders from across the country.

Wide choice

The venue has turned into a shopper’s paradise, especially for college-going girls, and women lapping up the range of products available in all price ranges such as garments, jewellery, accessories, footwear, and home decor. Tattoo stalls offering both permanent and temporary ones are a big craze among the youth. Cultural programmes performed in the middle of the venue attract a good number of visitors who take a break from the shopping.

The stalls are laden with clothes, jewellery, a wide range of antique stuff, modern designs in oxidised silver jewellery with famous uncut kundans, diamonds, stones and beads from Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. “This is my first visit to this city and I love the way people are responding to my collection,” says an excited Dharmendar, a jewellery vendor.

In the garments section, the choice is wide. Cotton, shiffon, Bhagalpur, pure Rajasthani silk, bandhni and rion cotton sarees, dress materials, bed sheets, shirts, kids wear with rare prints and hand made home decors are eye-catching.

The smiling faces around tell it all. This is the best bet for family entertainment,” says Priya who was here with her friends. Foodies are spoilt for choice with a range of north and south Indian delicacies like pav-bhaji, chole-puri, paratha, to papads tantalising their taste buds. “The business is good this year,” beams Shyam, a textile vendor. The exhibition is open till June 10.

Constant vigil

Police personnel maintain constant vigil to prevent thefts, regulate the crowd and also to prevent any untoward incident. “I and my team are here to ensure public safety,” says K. Bhaskar, a head constable on duty at the venue. The crowds swell as the evening progresses, proving yet again that such events will continue to draw compulsive and impulsive shoppers in droves for many years to come.
