Oreo is the most-adopted OS on Android devices with an install-base of 28.3-per cent.
At Google’s 2019 I/O keynote, the tech giant revealed several details about the next Android Q OS. But, after going dark for six months, Google finally updated its Android distribution data which puts the Android Pie adoption at around 10-per cent.
Android 9.0 Pie is the latest version of the mobile operating system Google launched in August 2019. While the 10-per cent number is not very high, the numbers are still up from last year. In May 2018 when Android Oreo was Google’s latest OS, it only ran on 5.7-per cent of all Android devices.
According to the statistics, Oreo is the most-adopted OS on Android devices with an install base of 28.3-percent, followed by the 19.2 percent coverage for Android Nougat, 16.9 percent user-base for Android Marshmallow and 14.5 percent for Android Lollipop. These statistics put Android 9.0 Pie in the fifth place with its 10.4 percent install base.10 years and now over 2.5 billion active devices. Apple, on the other hand, boasts a significantly broader device adoption of the latest OS, as compared to Google. Apple’s closed-loop control over software is something a vast majority of Android devices simply cannot match. Apple’s most recent iOS 12 update only took 23 days to hit 50-per cent. As of February 24, 80 percent of all Apple devices was using the latest OS.
However, Android’s user-base encompasses 2.5 billion devices, 500 million more than what Google revealed at I/O 2017. And, this number only includes active users. Android’s market share currently dwarfs iOS, which is another reason why the Cupertino giant holds the edge in terms of the percentage of adoption.
