Ludhiana: The Akali-BJP candidate Maheshinder Singh Grewal on Thursday gave credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ensuring justice to Sikhs, particularly in the cases of 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
“It was due to personal attention of PM Modi that the culprits of Sikh genocide like Sajjan Kumar were behind bars today and the case against another culprit Jagdish Tytler was reopened,” he said addressing a gathering here on Thursday.
“The successive Congress governments had not only tried their best to shield the culprit but also had made them ministers ” he said while pointing out how Sajjan Kumar and Tytler were given party tickets and also important portfolios.
Further listing the steps of BJP ruled central government, he mentioned that not only did the riot victims get justice under the BJP rule but it also abolished the black list of Sikhs who were staying abroad after seeking political asylum. “It was the healing touch policy of Modi that will now allow thousands of Sikhs who were stuck up abroad to visit their motherland again. This will go a long way in healing the hurt sentiments of the community,” he said.
Grewal challenged the Congress candidate Ravneet Singh Bittu to list one single such action that Congress government had taken in favour of Sikhs. “I do not want to refer to and repeat what Congress has done to the Sikhs, but nobody can forget that.” he said.
Expressing confidence that people will go along with Narendra Modi, he said, every Ludhianvi will feel proud after May 23 that he or she contributed towards re electing a Prime Minister who has dedicated his life to the country.
