The police chargesheeted a 42-year-old man for allegedly raping his nine-year-old daughter in Pataudi and attached the testimony of 18 witnesses.

On April 28, a daily wager was arrested, after the girl had told her caretaker that her father had been molesting her for over a year. The caretaker had informed a city-based non-government organisation (NGO), Farishte, that had alerted the child welfare committee officials.

A case was registered against the accused man under Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on April 28 at the women’s police station, Manesar.

Police said the girl’s mother had committed suicide three years ago and her elder sister lives with her maternal grandmother. Saroj, sub inspector (SI), women’s police station, Manesar, said the girl had been living alone with her father since her mother died. “Her father used to drop her at a caretaker’s house when he went to work. The girl started crying and complained of pain in her private parts. Upon prodding, she had confided in the caretaker that her father had been molesting her,” said SI Saroj.

Police said in the chargesheet, the statement of 18 witnesses, including statements of child welfare committee (CWC) officials, medical staff at Civil Hospital in Sector 10, police personnel, community health centre (CHC), Pataudi, staff and NGO officials, were attached.

SI Saroj, the investigating officer in the case, said that the statement of the caretaker was not included in the chargesheet, as she had refused to do so, citing personal reasons.

Shakuntala Yadav, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), crime against women, Manesar, said the chargesheet was filed in the sessions court on May 9, but the remand paper for its acceptance is yet to be received.

“Since this was a heinous crime, the police expedited the investigation and filed a chargesheet within 12 days of arresting the accused person,” said Yadav.
