CHENNAI: A woman and her mother were arrested on Thursday for setting the woman's father-in-law ablaze in Thiruvalangadu. Police said 65-year-old Sabapathy died on Wednesday.
Police said Sabapathy's son Prabhakaran married 34-year-old Gayathri six years ago. The couple have a son. Gayathri left Prabhakaran due to some differences and had been staying with her parents for two years.
On April 11, Prabhakaran got married to another woman. When Gayathri and her mother, Kalaivani, 57, heard about the wedding, they rushed to Prabhakaran's home.
But when they reached the place, only Sabapathy was at home. The women were arguing with Sabapathy when one of them picked up some kerosene in the house and poured it over Sabapathy, who was lying on a cot in front of his house. Gayathri lit a match and set the man on fire, following which the two women fled the spot.

Hearing Sabapathy's cries, neighbours came to his residence and took him to Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital
Based on his dying declaration recorded by Egmore metropolitan magistrate Roselin Durai, the Kanagammachathiram police arrested Gayathri and Kalaivani.
