Cong leaders reach Shivraj’s residence with eye drop, chyawanprash

Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal, Congress targeted BJP for the second successive day on the issue of loan waiver of peasants in the state. Congress leaders arrived at Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s bungalow on Wednesday also. Security personnel did not let them enter the bungalow. Congressmen presented Chyavanprash, eye drops and almonds for Shivraj to the security staff.

The leaders said that Shivraj’s eyesight and memory has become weak, so they have brought these things for him. Daily consumption of these will improve his memory and eye sight besides ending his habit of telling lies.

The Congress-led Madhya Pradesh government and the opposition BJP had earlier on Tuesday battled over loan waivers for farmers, with the ruling Congress furnishing a list of those who benefited, while clarifying its poll promise was limited to crops loans, not “personal loans”.

A Congress delegation lead by former Union minister Suresh Pachouri on Tuesday ‘submitted’ bundles of documents at former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s residence as a ‘proof’ that his party has waived off loans of 21 lakh farmers after coming to power in the state in December last year.

However, Chouhan rejected the Congress’ claims, dubbing it as a ‘bundle of lies’. The BJP leaders have been accusing the Congress government of going back on its promise of waiving farm loans. The Congress leaders claimed that in the first phase, their government had waived off loans up to Rs 2 lakh benefitting 21 lakh farmers in the state.

The documents dumped at Chouhan’s residence include name of the farmers whose loans were waived off, their phone numbers, account numbers and the amount waived off and importantly no dues.

The BJP had issued a charge sheet and questioned the loan waiver of farmers by the Kamal Nath government. Shivraj had also asked for a list of banks from the Kamalnath government. On Tuesday, the Congress leaders had reached his bungalow with the documents of loan waiver.

‘BJP making false allegations’

Congress leader Narendra Saluja said, the anger of losing power is still visible in Shivraj Singh. He is not able to accept the truth. Even after giving proof of loan waiver, he is making false allegations.

On the offering of Chyavanprash and almonds, BJP leader Rajneesh Agarwal tweeted saying that if Congress leaders had offered these items to their national leadership, then today they would not have had to witness such bad days.

Farmers said, yes our loan was waived

Union Minister Smriti Irani had some awkward moments during an election rally in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday as replying to her query over loan waiver, people in the gathering replied ‘Yes’ the loans have been waived off.

Irani, who was addressing an election rally in Ashoknagar district referred to Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s pre-assembly poll promise of waiving off farm loans in ten days. She went to ask whether the farm loans were actually waived off, some persons in the crowd shouted aloud ‘yes the loans were waived off’.

The shouting continued for almost half a minute as Irani paused her speech but later started speaking again. A video of the said incident also went viral later in the day.

The incident comes in the wake of heated exchanges between the BJP and Congress over loan waiver issue. The BJP is persistently claiming that farm loans haven’t been waived off while the Congress leaders had dropped bundles of 21 lakh names of beneficiaries at Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s home on Tuesday.

The Congress is circulating a list in social media which contains names of those who availed the loan waiver and are from Chouhan’s brother and cousin.
