KOLHAPUR: The Satara police on Wednesday arrested a woman and her co-worker, with whom she allegedly had a relationship, on the charge of killing her boy (10) by throwing him into a canal after offering him sedative-laced soft drink.
The police said Ashwini Prakash Chavan and Sachin Shivram Kumbhar worked with a manufacturing firm. Wai police inspector A T Khobare said Chavan's son, Gaurav, would object to Kumbhar's frequent visits to their homes and phone calls.

On April 28, Chavan had lodged a police complaint stating that Gaurav was missing from the Gangapuri area. The police found his body the following day from the canal of Dhom dam.
"The two had taken Gaurav to an area near the canal. Kumbhar gave him the soft drink. Once he was unconscious, Kumbhar threw him into it," the officer said.
