Andhra Pradesh: Heat relief after May 11, say weather experts

The usually busy Guntur- Vijayawada highway looks desert, with the high temperatures recorded in the state.
VIJAYAWADA: The current heat wave conditions will continue for two more days in Andhra Pradesh, according to AP Real Time Governance Society (RTGS). The scorching summer sun is likely to relent after May 11, bringing respite from heatwave conditions in many parts of the state.
Meanwhile on Thursday, a few places in the state recorded 47 degrees Celsius, and many parts recorded temperatures ranging from 43 to 47 degrees Celsius. The Andhra Pradesh Weather Forecasting and Early Warning Research Centre (AWARE), a division of RTGS, issued a four-day seasonal forecast on Thursday, stating that the climate is likely to be warmer than normal for another two days. It also warned that heatwave will continue till May 11.

Many parts of coastal districts and some parts of Rayalaseema may record temperature range between 45 and 48 degrees Celsius. “Apart from heatwave conditions, many parts may receive unexpected rain and thundershowers,” RTGS experts said.

There is likely to be a slight reduction in temperatures from May 12 due to change in weather conditions in the Bay of Bengal between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh coasts.
On Thursday, Tadepalligudem in West Godavari recorded the day’s highest temperature of 47 degrees Celsius, followed by Nindra in Chittoor district with 46.85 degrees Celsius. Kurnool and Prakasam districts are also experiencing high temperatures. About 50 places recorded temperatures between 45 and 47 degrees Celsius, while 225 locations recorded between 43 to 45 degrees Celsius.
