MADURAI
A total of ₹ 20 lakh was allegedly robbed from two employees of a finance company by four persons pretending to be election related Flying Squad officials near Varichiyur along Sivaganga Main Road on Thursday evening.
Police sources said that L. Saravanan and another person named Aravind, working in a finance company’s branch in Sivaganga, was bringing ₹ 20 lakh in a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus to Madurai.
When they were near Varichiyur, four persons waiting in a car, stopped the bus and brought the two persons down under the pretext of frisking them. The four men, who claimed to be Flying Squad officials monitoring the implementation of Model Code of Conduct in the district, took the duo in the car.
After robbing the cash and three mobile phones, the two were let down near Sakkudi, according to the complaint filed by Saravanan. Karuppayurani police are investigating.
